Don't ask me what the police are supposed to have done wrong at the Hillsborough "disaster".
Deep down, quite simply, it's impossible for me not to feel that it's just more comfortable, given that dozens of Liverpool supporters were trampled to death by, er, other Liverpool supporters, for the Establishment to blame the police for everything that went wrong rather than the people actually doing the trampling.
It is deeply depressing though that no one in any public prints has mentioned the Heysel Stadium disaster, for example. Not that, in retrospect, that wasn't to be expected.
