Desterrado (The Exile) - Carrara marble, 1872 - by the Portuguese sculptor António Soares dos Reis. This extraordinary work of art is in the Museu Nacional Soares dos Reis in Porto. It is one of the finest sculptures I have seen in person, easily ranking with the works of Michelangelo and Bernini.

An alternative sort of fire drill (tool) is of course what we in English call the hand drill, but which in German is referred to as the Quirlbohrer (the whisk drill) or simply the Feuerquirl (the fire whisk). According to Guido von List, it was with such a Feuerquirl that the Germanic god Mundilföri first kindled the universe.
