One country where gays and traditionalist Catholics have been treated similarly badly for most of the last fifty years is of course Cuba.

This guy seems interesting.* He's a Cuban artist who blogs under the name Renelio. I don't know whether he was expelled from the Communist Youth Organisation (CYO) for being gay or for being a right-winger ("counter-revolutionary"), but officially it was because he painted a mural that implicitly compared Castro with Hitler.

*Actually, I was looking for information about this mural, and Renelio's blog was the first thing that came up.
