Despite the Left's incessantly referring to this as a "Nazi" funeral, he was of course not a Nazi. Rather he was a career diplomat who had been ambassador to the Court of St James since before Hitler came to power and had in fact been working quietly and, er, diplomatically to undermine Hitler - until, that is to say, his "sudden" death! And before being posted to London had been the German ambassador to Paris.
His replacement, of course, was a Nazi - the notorious former champagne salesman Joachim von Ribbentrop.
Although Hoesch's body was repatriated to Germany, his faithful hound Giro was buried in London - the only German grave of the Third Reich era in the British capital to this day.
